TOP 10 of NYFW

Hi guys! Today I wanted to share the runways, presentations and lookbooks I enjoyed most from SS17 NYFW as well as the trends I saw and liked. To be completely honest, New York is probably my least favorite out of all of the major fashion weeks. I find that there's a lack of experimentation in New York in comparison to the European shows. I'm excited that I will also be doing these posts for London, Milan and Paris! Here are my favorite looks from my top 7 shows, in no particular order: 1. Beaufille Probably my favorite collection in this post. Beaufille came on my radar about a year ago, and I continue to be more and more impressed by their new collections. The label was created in 2009 by two sisters, Parris Gordon and Chloe Gordon. They had a presentation during NYFW last February for their FW16 collection, but for SS17 chose to just do a lookbook. The collection is available for presale on Moda Operandi. Their menswear inspired spring collection is full of flared sleeves, cutouts, mesh, and minimal prints. I love that Beaufille’s garments show skin in such a classy way and I think Parris and Chloe make mesh look so elegant and effortless. The pieces are flowy, but still extremely flattering.

2. Proenza Schouler I’m sure you’ve already seen photos and read reviews of the Proenza Schouler show as it was so widely loved during NYFW. The designers evolved their signature knit dresses by adding knotted cutouts at the chest and waist. I loved the color combinations and unique prints! Overall, it was a really beautiful show.

3. Rosetta Getty Again, we see the off the shoulder trend!! Rosetta Getty made this look really tasteful and I love the deconstruction in some of the tops featured. A very wearable collection.

4. Rodarte So many safety pins and intricate embroidery in lace fabrics!! This collection seemed so dreamy (the fur, the sequins and studs, the earrings). I love that they kept the models’ makeup and hair natural. Not really my style, but I’m always excited to see what Rodarte puts down the runway.

5. DKNY DKNY has had a lot of changes recently and I really admire the Public School boys so I was anxious to see how the show for SS17 would turn out. I would wear some of the pieces and I already have a pair of sock boots by Rick Owens so I was able to take outfit inspiration from some of these looks.

6. Monse More deconstructed garments! I haven’t been following Monse for too long as they are pretty new, but I loved this collection. The color palette, the stripes, the belted chokers…all really cool.

7. Alexander Wang I wasn’t a huge fan of this collection, but I have to mention him because I think he’s SO COOL. WANGFEST looked awesome.

TRENDS 1. See now, buy now. Many designers are beginning to offer their collections for sale immediately after going down the runway, instead of making the consumer wait until the next season. It’s really controversial in the industry right now and I can’t say I’m too much of a fan. However, it seems that this method is boosting sales at many retail stores. 2. Cutouts Not much to say. A ton of cutouts this season, as you can see in the photos above! 3. Deconstruction

A ton of deconstructed garments, with a big focus on tops. Examples of designers using this trend are Beaufille, Alexander Wang, Carolina Herrera and Monse, to name a few. This trend has been present for a couple seasons and I’ve already noticed it trickling down to retailers such as Zara.
